Telangana plans 1,000 mw solar park in Mahbubnagar
Telangana Telangana is planning a 1,000-mw solar park in Mahbubnagar district of the state, according to a top official.
“The proposed solar park project will come up in the Ghattu mandal of the district,” said Jayesh Ranjan, managing director of Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, the nodal agency of the government entrusted with the responsibility of land allocation for industries.
Among others, the government is in talks with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited. The latter is reportedly studying the possibility of setting up about 500 mw at the proposed solar park. The project will be on an open access basis, which allows large users of power having connected load of one megawatt and above to buy power from the open market instead of the state utilities.
“Through the proposed solar park, we want the industries to buy power from the vendors. This will reduce the demand for power from the state utilities,” the official said.
It helps large power consumers like textile, cement and other industrial units. A master plan for the project would be readied soon. Solar Energy Corporation of India, a government of India enterprise, will assist the state in drawing up the master plan.
The Telangana government will create the necessary infrastructure, including the grid for evacuation of power. Once the master plan is ready, it would issue guidelines for the bids, Jayesh Ranjan said.
The minimum installation would be ten MW. However, there could be installations of higher capacity as well. “We are in talks with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited. If talks fructify, it alone could set up about 500 mw. However, we are awaiting a concrete proposal in this regard,” he told FC.
Earlier, the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TSSPDCL) had called bids for setting up of two mw to 200 mw capacities in nine districts of Telangana. In all, it had called tenders for 500 mw.
Meanwhile, ACME Group, which has interests in energy management and green technology solutions, on Wednesday said it had won 80 mw solar power projects at the Telangana solar power tender.
It would invest about Rs 660 crore for the project. With this, its solar power portfolio would increases to 502.5 mw, according to Manoj Kumar Upadhyay, founder, ACME Group said.
