ParabitaBasu Advertisement for the position of Research Assistant The Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore invites applications from prospective candidates for the position of Research Assistant (JRF status). Brief Job Description: Job responsibilities include field and laboratory-based ecological research on structure and function of grazing ecosystems in different parts of India. This will entail field measurements of primary productivity, soil respiration, plant species composition, soil fertility. Laboratory work will include measurements of nitrogen mineralization rates, estimation on microbial respiration, soil profiles such as pH, water holding capacity, and cation exchange capacity. The JRF will also be responsible for data management and analyses. Qualifications and skills: Master’s degree in Ecology, Soil Science, Zoology, Botany, or any related discipline. Candidates should have prior experience in field research and a working knowledge of laboratory equipment such as elemental analyzer, continuous flow analyzer, microbial fumigation chambers, and analytical chemistry, and should be willing to carry out field and laboratory work independently. Working knowledge of Kannada is desirable. Project duration: Initially for nine months, extendable upon future availability of funding Start date: November 15, 2013.
